Surrey Army Cadet Force Online

The Army Cadet Force is one of the country's leading voluntary youth organisations. Not part of the Army, as many think, it is partly funded by the Ministry of Defence. It's current strength nationally is a staggering 40,000 and in Surrey that figure stands at around 700 cadets.

Membership is open to young men and women between the ages of 12 (and in Year 8 at school) to 18¾ who all have one major thing in common ... the quest for action and adventure.

Members of the Army Cadet Force wear uniform and hold military ranks and it has a training syllabus based upon the proven morale-building techniques and activities of the military way of life.

:: Activities

All Cadets can participate in a wide variety of adventurous activities from rock-climbing to target rifle shooting and first aid - all under the watchful eye of qualified adults of course. Being sponsored in part by the Army, The Army Cadet Force is able to make use of the Army's resources for these activities.

On parade nights, Cadets undertake a serious of training periods working towards a series of achievement tests based upon the Army Proficiency Certificate and the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

Older Cadets are given the opportunity to travel abroad, recently to Canada, Germany, Nepal, Bolivia and France. This year a party of 30 cadets will visit Australia as part of Exercise Southern Cross 2007!

:: The ACF Charter

The Army Cadet Force is a national youth organisation. It is sponsored by the Army and provides challenging military, adventurous, and community activities. It's aim is to inspire young people to achieve success in life with a spirit of service to the Queen, their Country and their local community, and to develop them in the qualities of a good citizen; this aim is achieved by:

::	Providing progressive cadet training, often of a challenging and exciting nature, to foster confidence, self reliance, initiative, loyalty, and a sense of duty to other people.
::	Encouraging the development of personal powers of practical leadership and the ability to work successfully as a member of a team.
::	Stimulating an interest in the Army, it's achievements, skills and values.
::	Advising and preparing those considering a career in the Services or with the Reserve Forces.

:: Detachments

There are 26 separate Detachments in Surrey Army Cadet Force grouped together into five smaller areas.

Each Detachment has a target strength of around 25 Cadets and two to three Adult Leaders. They normally meet on two evenings each week and there are many voluntary activities on most weekends throughout the year as well as a two week Annual Camp in the summer.

Surrey Cadets Support TA100 Army Benevolent Fund & BLESMA

In support of the TA and working for the benefit of soldiers in need were Surrey Army Cadets from Guildford, Merrow, Cranleigh and Haselmere Detachments led by 2Lt Adrian Paice. A total of £2,671.97 was raised by the cadets.
