:: Walton Detachment at the Hersham Carnival and Mayor's Charity Swim

Walton Detachment participated in the Hersham Carnival and the Mayor's Charity Swim. Unfortunately we cannot report an outstanding success - the Detachment came last! Never mind - full marks for entering a team - it is the participation that counts.

:: Cranleigh, Merrow and Farncombe Detachments at the Aldershot Show - 3 July 2008

Cadets from Cranleigh, Merrow and Farncombe were invited to spend the evening with the Royal Signals and their White Helmet motorcycle display team on Wednesday 3rd July in Aldershot. The Royal Signals gave the cadets the opportunity to ride on their famous motorcycles, have a closer look at their armoured personnel carriers and also gave a presentation on their regiment and the job roles that were available.

LCpl Douet from Merrow Detachment said 'I have had a great evening and the guys from the Royal Signals were fantastic, I really wanted to take one of their motorbikes home but they wouldn't let me.'

The evening was arranged by Sgt. Andy Liddicott from the army recruiting office in Aldershot.

:: Cranleigh Detachment - May 2008

A recent visit by soldiers of the PWRR to Cranleigh Detachment provided some interest. The visitors led by a Lieutenant brought weapons and equipment for the Cranleigh cadets to handle. The evening was well spent. Many thanks to the PWRR for laying on the extra-mural training.

:: Walton Detachment - ANZAC Day Parade - 23 April 2007

The evening of 23 April 2007started with a muster parade at Walton Detachment. The High Commissioner from The New Zealand Embassy accompanied by the Detachment Commander inspected the cadets. Once the formal inspection was complete, the Detachment marched to the church and lined both sides of the path into the church. The guests entered the church through the ACF Guard of Honour.

Once all the guests had arrived, the cadets entered the church followed by the standard bearers of various organisations including the British Legion. A Remembrance Service took place to honour the memory of the ANZACs who fell in the Great War and those of Australian and New Zealand service men who fell in subsequent conflicts around the world.

Towards the end of the service selected cadets took part in the collection.

On completion of the church service the congregation moved to the memorial site outside the church where wreaths were laid and the poignant strains of the Last Post were played. The whole evening was conducted with the dignity and solemnity that befits the memory of the fallen ANZACs.

:: Chobham Detachment - Chobham Fete - 7 May 2007

Chobham Village held its annual Carnival on Bank Holiday Monday and for the first time cadets from the detachment were invited to attend. A total of 15 cadets assembled at 11am and marched to the carnival procession point where they were detailed to assist in marshalling the parade as it made its way through the village. Having reached the village recreation ground an hour later, the cadets then assisted further by manning “Hoopla” and “Tombola” stalls and patrolling the gate, handing out programmes and collecting donations. Despite a period of torrential rain (during which all the cadets displayed their resilience!), the event was a great success. The organisers were particularly impressed with the conduct of the cadets and indicated that they had received much positive feedback from the public. Well done to all those who attended and congratulations on another successful community event!
