Annual
Camp 2009 |
|
To
follow the events and personalities of Surrey Army Cadets
Annual Camp see the entries below:
Surrey
Army Cadets Annual Camp is being held this year at
Okehampton Training Camp in Devon. In fact it is on the edge
of Dartmoor - one
of the wildest areas in the UK, ideal for
our purposes.
Parents
might be able to catch a glimpse of their cadets in action.
Friends might be able to see what they are missing by not
joining.

Annual Camp Day
2
- Monday
17 August 2009 |
|
Training
starts today. First off - every morning - muster parade.
Who's here, who's not. Who's sick. Then on with the
training.
Safety
First. One of the first things that happens on camp is the
fire drill. Who set off the alarm? Four hundred cadets
heading for the main square is not a pretty site! After
much too-ing and fro-ing, everyone was accounted
for.
Food
is one of the most important considerations. Quality,
quantity and variety. ESS the caterer at Okehampton has to
be the best in the UK. All the cadets agree that the grub
is brilliant. I won't name the cadets who said it was
better than at home. The pictures below tell their own
story.
After
evening meal the County Regimental Sergeant Major and the
Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major judged the County Drill
Competition. The standard of the drill was very high from
all the competitors and the winner was selected by the
narrowest of margins. I have been asked not to mention
that Cadet Under Officer Tresman competed with a button
undone!!!! Who won? Why E Company of course.

Annual Camp Day 1
-
Sunday 16 August 2009 |
|
At
last Annual Camp has arrived. The coaches started their pick
up in Surrey at 8 o'clock and by 2 o'clock on a murky Sunday
afternoon the first coach arrived. The remainder of the
coaches rolled up at 15 to 20 minute intervals. It all took
place so smoothly you might be forgiven for thinking that it
was all planned.
Cohorts
of cadets, some new, some very experienced milled around
waiting to be allocated bed spaces. After a couple hours
everyone was fixed up with somewhere to sleep and most
importantly knew where the cookhouse was located.
